Khari Kill Interview, 2007
KHARI KILL AKA “the THE VOICE OF DI GHETTO” as Brooklyn calls him, has definitely reestablished New York as a power house in conscious reggae music. Born in the Trinidadian ghetto of La Horquetta, he discovered in his early teens his gift of song writing. This was the foundation of khari's arsenal of lyrics that would come to be delivered over various genres of music. Khari can be described as versatile reggae artist, his songs rage against oppression, poverty and injustice.
Who is Khari Kill? Please introduce yourself to the people!
Bless I am Khari Kill, one of Trinidad's and New york's most noted reggae artist, I am the voice behind the smash hit "PICTURE OF SELASSIE" on the MASSIVE B riddim entitled "TRUTHS AND RIGHTS"-
Tell us about your first step into a studio.
The first time I stepped into a studio: I was 16, I recorded a track entitled "3G,s" (GOD MA GUIDANCE AND MA GIRL) it was an instant hit in Trinidad and Tobago.
What happened after that?
I have over 1,000 completed songs but still not signed to a major label.
Please tell us about your releases (so far)!
I have released these singles so far "PICTURE OF SELASSIE ", "MARY GRAND SON" "LOVE WILL LEAD THE WAY", "COOL MA DOOPS" "WHILE AM LIVING", "JESUS" and recently "FREE JAHCURE", "WHY" alongside PRINCESS MENNIN and LUTAN FIYA. All these are on 45.
I know that there is a debut album in the pipeline. Tell us more about it!
My debut album "PICTURE OF SELASSIE" is set to be released in May 07. My album is straight fiya, if u want consciousness, this is the album for u. If u want good beats and melodys, this is the album for u. If u want a different and original voice, this is the album for u. If u want straight fiya in the reggae game, "PICTURE OF SELASSIE " is the album u need to get.
Future plan?
Just stay in the studio all the time. I am doing quit
a few colabs right now with international artists... Reggae, Hip Hop and Reggaeton. I got a single

Your music is known in the whole world, from Brooklyn to Berlin to Trinidad to Tokyo. What about your popularity in Jamaica?
Its growing lovely, they play my music a lot over there and my Jamaican brothers show mad love, especially the Jamaican community in Brooklyn, they know when Khari Kill rep. I rep. for my Brooklyn people hard... the entire caribbean, also the Jamaican artists like "RICHIE SPICE", "BUJU BANTON" "GYIPTIAN", "NORRIS MAN"^, "LUTAN FIYA", "JAH CURE" among others treat me with mad respect and love. “Free Jah cure" is one of your latest tunes.
Can you tell us about the relationship between you and Jah Cure?
We only spoke once but its a conversation that would last with me foriver, I was doing an interview on “95.9fm waah gwan radio” in New York and he called the radio station to show me some Jamaica love, he said “keep da fiya burning”. I told him a coat from my new hit "AH GET D WORD DEM GO FREE JAH CURE ANY DAYYYYY"... Big Up JA!
